Piaggio recently launched its new maxi-scooter, the Aprilia SXR 125, in India. It is nearly identical to the SXR 160 in all areas, except for the smaller 125cc engine. Now, the SXR is surely an attractive blend of excitement and practicality, but its price tag of Rs 1.15 lakh might be exorbitant for some. For such buyers, here are five alternatives over the SXR 125 that cost nearly the same.
Vespa SXL 125: Rs 1.12 lakh
Besides the modern and sporty SXR twins, Piaggio also has the Vespa line-up for those who like elegant-looking Italian gear-less beauties. The closest that comes to the SXR 125 in terms of price is the SXL 125. With its clean and curvy body panels, rectangular headlamp and chrome accents, the SXL 125 has a distinctive charm to it. Powering the scooter is a 124.45cc, three-valve engine that makes 9.78bhp and 9.60Nm.
Bajaj Pulsar NS160: Rs 1.10 lakh
Owing to its hefty price tag, the SXR 125 falls in the ballpark of 150-200cc motorcycles. And if you want a motorcycle that is not only sportier than the SXR but also Rs 5,000 cheaper, the Bajaj Pulsar NS160 is ideal. We recently tested the bike and it managed to impress us with its engaging handling and engine performance, while being fairly comfortable. You can read our first ride review of the Pulsar NS160 here.
Suzuki Gixxer: Rs 1.18 lakh
The Suzuki Gixxer is the Pulsar NS160’s close rival. For the extra Rs 8,000, you get a motorcycle that is lighter in weight, more feature-loaded and runs a smoother engine. It also brings the well-known Japanese reliability to the table. Powering the Gixxer is a refined 155cc mill that produces 13.41bhp and 13.8Nm. But it’s worth noting that the NS160 makes more power and torque than the Gixxer on paper.
Hero Xtreme 200S: Rs 1.19 lakh
For just Rs 1,000 more than the Gixxer’s pricing, customers also have the Hero Xtreme 200S at their disposal. Not only it has a larger 200cc engine, but it’s also the most affordable motorcycle with this displacement. With the fully-faired design, it looks quite sporty and aggressive but the overall character and comfort is extremely friendly, welcoming and commute-friendly.
Hero Xpulse 200: Rs 1.15 lakh
For the same price as the SXR 125, adventure junkies should pick the Hero Xpulse 200 without a second thought. It is the most affordable ADV available in India and an ideal gateway for riders who want to get into adventure biking. Interestingly, it’s not only adept to thrash around on tricky trails, but its long-travel suspension also help while riding over pothole-ridden roads of India. What’s more, with a 200cc engine, LED lighting and a Bluetooth-enabled console, the Xpulse 200 is also a great value-for-money.
