BMW Motorrad India has updated its product portfolio with the launch of the BS6-compliant S1000R naked roadster. The motorcycle will be offered in three variants with prices ranging between Rs 17.90 lakh and Rs 22.50 lakh. Here we list the alternatives that potential buyers can consider in a similar price range.
Ducati Streetfighter V4 (Rs 19.99 lakh-23.19 lakh)
The Ducati Streetfighter is among the closest rivals to the BMW S1000R. The Italian roadster is offered in two variants and three colour options in the Indian market. The flagship roadster in the Italian brand’s portfolio shares its underpinnings and engine with the Panigale V4 superbike, although the Streetfighter V4 comes with upright ergonomics. The 1,103cc, V4-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine on the Streetfighter V4 S produces near similar power and torque output numbers as its fully-faired sibling. Linked to a six-speed gearbox, the V4 engine on the Streetfighter V4 is tuned to produce 205bhp of power at 12,750pm and 123Nm of peak torque at 9,500rpm. The S variant of the Streetfighter V4 range benefits from an electronically-adjustable suspension setup.
Kawasaki Z H2 (Rs 21.90-25.90 lakh)
Kawasaki’s supercharged, roadster is also a threat to the BMW S1000R in the Indian market. For starters, the Z H2 comes with Kawasaki’s supercharger technology that is also used on the Ninja H2 and the Ninja H2R. The 998cc, inline four-cylinder, liquid-cooled, supercharged motor in the Z H2 makes 197.2bhp of power at 11,000rpm and 137Nm of peak torque at 8,500rpm. Kawasaki also offers a more premium variant of the motorcycle, the Z H2 SE that is priced at Rs 25.90 lakh. The SE variant benefits from a semi-active electronically-adjustable suspension setup.
The S1000XR is a touring-friendly alternative to the S1000R. The motor on the litre-class tourer is based on the same engine as the S1000RR and the S1000R. The motor on the XR model is tuned for better power and torque delivery throughout the rev range. The 999cc, inline four-cylinder, liquid-cooled unit on the S1000XR makes 162bhp of maximum power at 11,000rpm and 114Nm of peak torque at 9,250rpm. Unlike the S1000R, BMW Motorrad offers the S1000XR in a single variant.
Harley-Davidson Fat Boy (Rs 20.90 lakh)
Buyers interested in a cruiser-style motorcycle can opt for the Harley-Davidson Fat Boy, that is available at Rs 20.90 lakh. The feature list on the Fat Boy isn’t as comprehensive as other products in this list, although the American cruiser packs a desirable style. The feature list comprises an LED headlight and a semi-digital instrument cluster. Mechanical specifications include a 1,868cc, V-twin engine that produces 155Nm of peak torque at 3,000rpm.
Triumph Rocket III (Rs 19.35-19.95 lakh)
Triumph Motorcycles’ power cruiser packs the largest displacement engine on a production motorcycle. The 2,458cc, inline-three, liquid-cooled engine produces 165bhp of maximum power at 6,000rpm and a massive 221Nm of peak torque at 4,000rpm. Moreover, unlike the Harley-Davidson Fat Boy, the Triumph Rocket III gets a wide range of features such as full-LED lighting and a Bluetooth-enabled instrument cluster. The feature list matches the motorcycles listed in this list which makes the Rocket III a very desirable motorcycle. Buyers can select between two variants – R and GT. The GT packs touring friendly components while the R is focused on sporty riding.
