Triumph Motorcycles is aiming at a sales growth of 20-25 per cent in the 2016-17 financial year. The British manufacturer sold around 3,000 units in India in the last financial year. The modern classic range which includes the Bonnevilles, Street Twin and the Thruxton will be top sellers for the British brand.
Triumph Motorcycles India Managing Director Vimal Sumbly said, "Considering our high base, we have achieved last year at 3,000 units, we are confident of further building onto our sales momentum and hope to clip at 20-25 per cent this year. But to increase volume, we will not become a mass brand by reducing the prices or downsizing our engines below 500cc. We want to be a niche player only."
Triumph entered the country just two years ago and the sales have increased five-fold to 3,000 units in the second year compared to the 500 in the first year. Sumbly said that the superbike segment has five sub-segments which are classic, roadster, supersports, adventure and cruiser. Triumph is present in all categories however, the classic segment is the largest for the company with 45 per cent volume share.
Triumph sells 15 global models in the country through its dealerships in Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Indore, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad and Kochi. Sumbly said the number of dealers will touch 15 by the end of this year, and 20 by 2020.
