Here, we bring you alternatives to the Ducati DesertX in the adventure-tourer segment of the Indian market.
Triumph Tiger 900 Rally Pro: Rs 15.80 lakh
The flagship Triumph Tiger 900 variant is available at a much lower price tag than the new Ducati DesertX. The Tiger 900 Rally Pro is the off-road-biased version of the Tiger 900 range, and it comes equipped with hardware such as 21-inch front and 17-inch cross-spoke wheels shod in tubeless tyres. It also features long-travel suspension and a tall-set exhaust that are aimed to improve its off-roading prowess. Meanwhile, the mechanical specifications include an 888cc, inline three-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that produces a maximum output of 93.9bhp at 8,750rpm and a peak torque of 87Nm at 7,250rpm. The feature list comprises full-LED lighting, a Bluetooth-enabled instrument cluster, six riding modes, ABS, and a traction control system.
Ducati Multistrada V2 S: Rs 17.49 lakh
The S variant of the Ducati Multistrada V2, too, is available at a lower price tag than the new DesertX. This adventure tourer from the Italian manufacturer uses the same 937cc, L-twin, liquid-cooled engine that also powers the DesertX. Linked to a six-speed gearbox, this motor is tuned to produce 111.3bhp at 9,000rpm and 96Nm of peak torque at 7,750rpm. The S variant of the motorcycle uses Ducati Skyhook Suspension EVO semi-active suspension system. Meanwhile, the braking tasks are handled by twin 320mm rotors with Brembo monobloc calipers at the front and a single 265mm disc with Brembo calipers at the back. The electronic aids on the S variant comprise cornering ABS, traction control system, vehicle hold control, four riding modes (Sport, Touring, Urban, and Enduro), cruise control system, cornering lights, and quickshifter.
Honda Africa Twin DCT: Rs 17.55 lakh
The Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) variant of the Honda Africa Twin Adventure Sports is available at an ex-showroom price tag of Rs 17.55 lakh. For that price, this flagship adventurer tourer from the Japanese manufacturer gets a 1,082.96cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine that makes 98bhp at 7,500rpm and 103Nm of peak torque at 6,000rpm. The premium feature list on this motorcycle comprises a six-axis Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), ABS, traction control, four default riding modes (Tour, Urban, Gravel, and Off-road), two customisable modes (USER 1 & 2) settings, and Apple CarPlay and the Android Auto system.
Harley-Davidson Pan America 1250 (Standard): Rs 18.26 lakh
For a marginal price premium over the Ducati DesertX, buyers can consider the standard version of the Harley-Davidson Pan America 1250. This is the first adventure-tourer from the American manufacturer, and it uses a 1,252cc Revolution Max 1250 engine that produces 150bhp of maximum power at 9,000rpm and 127Nm of peak torque at 6,750rpm. The base version of the Pan America 1250 gets full-LED lighting, a Bluetooth-enabled 6.8-inch colour TFT touchscreen display, and a USB C-type outlet. This version, however, misses an electronically adjustable semi-active suspension setup, tyre pressure monitoring system, centre stand, heated grips, steering damper, and an industry-first Adaptive Ride Height (optional) system. However, all these features can be seen on the Special variant of the motorcycle.
Triumph Tiger 1200 GT Pro: Rs 19.39 lakh
The entry-level variant of the Triumph Tiger 1200 range is available at Rs 19.39 lakh. This motorcycle is powered by a 1,160cc, inline three-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that produces 148bhp at 9,000rpm and 130Nm of peak torque at 7,000rpm. The motor is linked to a six-speed gearbox and the power is sent to the rear wheel via a shaft drive system. The electronic ride aids, which work with an Inertia Measurement Unit (IMU), include a cornering traction control system, cornering ABS, and selectable riding modes. The road-biased GT versions get 19-inch front and 18-inch rear alloy wheels shod in Metzeler Tourance tyres.
