The Italian power cruiser Diavel 1260 is back in India in a subtly-tweaked BS6 avatar. Ducati has kept it majorly unchanged and we aren’t complaining whatsoever as it was already a package worth drooling over. In case you’re wondering what’s so special about it, we tell you in five points.
Styling
The Diavel is easily one of the most visually appealing motorcycles out there. It gets a quintessential cruiser stance with a long wheelbase and a low-slung profile. But the things that help it look flamboyant are the flat, hexagon-shaped headlamp, burly fuel tank flanked by large air intakes, a floating-style seat, and a single-sided swingarm. What makes the S trim look even cooler is the bright red frame.
Features
Besides the basic stuff like full-LED lighting and TFT dash, there’s a comprehensive electronics package facilitated by a six-axis IMU. So you get access to cornering ABS, traction control, riding modes, power modes, launch control, wheelie control and cruise control.
Engine
Making the Diavel a true manic beast is a 1,262cc, L-twin, Testastratta engine that pumps out 159.7bhp of power at 9,500rpm and 129Nm of peak torque at 7,500rpm. While it makes slightly more power as compared to the BS4 model, the kerb weight is also 5kg more at 249kg.
Hardware
Ducati has equipped the S trim of the Diavel 1260 S with top-shelf components like Ohlins suspension and Brembo M50 monobloc callipers. Meanwhile, the standard trim sports a lower-spec suspension setup and Brembo M4.32 callipers. The wide 240 section rear tyre is one of the main highlights of the motorcycle.
Price
The Diavel 1260 BS6 standard has been priced at Rs 18.49 lakh which is a premium of Rs 79,000 over its BS4 counterpart. That’s reasonable considering its S variant is Rs 2.24 lakh more expensive now with a price tag of Rs 21.49 lakh (both prices are ex-showroom). The only real competition it has is the Triumph Rocket 3 R and GT in India.
