New Ducati Monster breaks cover; gets major updates for 2021

- New Ducati Monster and Monster Plus unveiled

- Gets a major overhaul in form and function

- Could make its way to India next year

Ducati has taken the wraps off the 2021 Monster during the final episode of its World Premiere series.

The new Monster replaces the Monster 821 and receives a complete overhaul in form as well as function. To begin with, the new Monster moves away from the trellis frame that has been used in the range since 1993 and uses a new Panigale V4-inspired aluminum frame that is 4.5kg lighter than the Monster 821’s unit. It also gets a 1.6kg lighter aluminum swingarm and 1.7kg lighter wheels as compared to the bike it replaces.

Ducati has plonked a 937cc, Testastretta L-twin into the new Monster. This motor pumps out 111bhp at 9,250rpm and 93Nm at 6,500rpm- a substantial increase over the previous output of 109bhp at 9,250rpm and 86Nm at 7,750rpm. Furthermore, the new Monster comes with an anti-slip clutch and quickshifter as standard. It also gets ride-by-wire throttle, wheelie, traction, and launch control along with three ride modes- Sport, Urban an Touring. Ducati has also upgraded the cockpit with a 4.3-inch TFT display that comes with optional Bluetooth connectivity.

In terms of styling, the 2021 Monster is now more aggressive thanks to the sharper lines on the fuel tank, a svelte rear section, and those upswept, slash-cut exhausts. At the front, the oval headlamp is now slightly angular and comes with full-LED lighting. Even the seating position has been revised. The handlebars are now 70mm closer to the rider and the footpegs 10mm lower while the 820mm seat height should be accessible to most riders. Away from the gadgetry, the new Monster rides on Pirelli Rosso 3 tyres with non-adjustable 43mm upside down forks and a pre-load adjustable monoshock at the rear. Braking duties are carried out by Brembo calipers that are assisted by cornering ABS.

For a little more flair, Ducati is offering the Monster Plus which comes with a fly screen and rear seat cowl as standard. Colour options for the bike include- Ducati Red, Dark Stealth and Aviator Grey with GP Red wheels. While the new Ducati Monster will be available in international markets soon, we can expect the brand to introduce the motorcycle in India sometime in mid-2021.
