- Is powered by a fuel-injected engine which is BS-VI compliant
- Gets several new features and minor cosmetic changes
- Likely to be priced around Rs 65,000 to Rs 70,000
Honda is all set to launch its first BS-VI offering, the Activa 125 FI, in India tomorrow.
The new model is powered by a fuel-injected motor, as opposed to the existing carburetted mill, in order to comply with the BS-VI emission norms which will be implemented from 1 April 2020. While it continues to have a displacement of 125cc, the power output is rated at 8.1bhp which is down from the carb variant's 8.5bhp. However, Honda has made a few changes to the motor which make it more fuel-efficient. This includes a revised inlet port shape and a more compact combustion chamber.
The new Activa 125 FI has also received minor changes to its styling which distinguish it from the carb version. On the feature front, updates are comprehensive as it gets a new instrument cluster which shows host information such as real-time fuel efficiency, range and a malfunction lamp, besides the basic information. The scooter also features an external fuel filler cap, idle-start-stop function and an ACG starter which reduces the engine firing up noise and prevents the use of starter motor.
The new Activa 125 FI remains unchanged in terms of hardware. Suspension duties are handled by telescopic forks up front and a monoshock at the rear. Braking setup comprises of a disc at the front and a drum at the rear assisted by CBS (combi-braking system). The company might also offer a more affordable drum brake variant.
Honda is likely to price the new Activa 125 FI around Rs 65,000 to Rs 70,000 (ex-showroom) in India. Notably, the company has already updated its official website with the new Activa 125 and its details. In terms of competition, it will go up against the likes of the TVS Ntorq 125 and the Hero Maestro Edge 125.
