New Honda Activa 125 FI BS-VI - Top 5 highlights

Honda has launched the new fuel-injected version of the Activa 125 in India. It is the first offering from the manufacturer which complies with the upcoming BS-VI emission norms, set to be implemented from 1 April 2020. Besides the new engine, the Activa 125 FI comes with a plethora of upgrades which put it a step ahead of the carburetted variant. In that case, let’s take a look at the top five highlights of the scooter.

New BS VI-compliant Engine

In order to make it compliant with the upcoming emission norms, Honda has equipped the 125cc motor of the Activa with PGM-FI (programmed fuel-injection) system. While this aids in delivering better fuel-efficiency than the carbureted mill, at 8.1bhp, it produces slightly lesser power. Furthermore, the new FI engine incorporates a revised inlet port and a more compact combustion chamber for achieving cleaner emissions.

More comprehensive instrument cluster

The new Activa 125 features an updated semi-digital instrument cluster which displays added information, besides the basic data. Now, it shows real-time fuel efficiency, fuel range and mileage alongside speed, RPM, clock, ECO indicator and service due reminder. Enhancing the safety quotient are added bits such as malfunction lamp and side stand indicator.

Host of modern features

Honda has equipped the FI version of the Activa 125 with a bunch of new features which make it more modern. As a part of its Enhanced Smart Power (eSP) package, the scooter incorporates an ACG starter which ignites the engine with the help of an AC generator, instead of a starter motor, thereby reducing the engine cranking noises. For an added safety, it also boasts of an engine inhibitor which prevents the engine from starting if the side stand is down. What’s more, the inclusion of a front glove box and external fuel filler cap raise up the convenience quotient.

Updated styling

Although the new Activa 125 FI retains the overall styling of the existing model, subtle changes help it stand apart. The LED headlamp and tail lamp have been redesigned to look slightly sharper while the LED position lamps have also been restyled. Completing the changes are the chrome accents and embossed 3D ‘Activa 125’ logo on the side panels.

Pricing and variants

Honda has launched the Activa 125 FI in three variants including Standard, Alloy and Deluxe. The standard model features drum brakes and steel wheels, and is priced at Rs 67,490. This makes it expensive by around Rs 2000 over the top-end variant of the carb Activa 125. Furthermore, the Alloy variant with drum brakes costs Rs 70,990 and the top-end Deluxe trim featuring alloy wheels with front disc is pegged at Rs 74,990. (All prices are ex-showroom, Delhi)
