- Honda launches its first BS-VI motorcycle, the SP 125

Honda2Wheelers India has launched its first BS-VI complaint motorcycle, the SP 125, with prices starting at Rs 72,900 (ex-showroom, Delhi). This is a premium of around Rs 7,000 over the BS-IV CB Shine SP, the motorcycle it is based on. The SP 125 will be available in two variants including drum brake and front disc brake models.
The new SP 125 gets a fresh styling along with a bunch of new features and an updated 125cc engine. The BS-VI-compliant powerplant features PGM-FI (programmed fuel-injection) which the company says delivers improved mileage and better performance over its BS-IV counterpart. This motor develops 10.5bhp of power and 10.3Nm of torque and both are moderately higher than the existing Shine SP. It comes mated to a five-speed gearbox. Notably, similar to the new BS-VI Activa 125, Honda has equipped the SP 125 with an ACG starter for reducing engine cranking noises.
Honda has also equipped the new SP 125 with a bunch of modern features. It gets a fully-digital instrument cluster which shows an Eco indicator, real-time fuel efficiency, gear position indicator and service reminder, besides the basic information. The commuter also gets an engine kill switch which is a segment-first feature. Furthermore, the design of the SP 125 is also more angular and sporty than the Shine SP while it also incorporates LED headlamp and tail lamp. In terms of cycle parts, the motorcycle remains the same as the CB Shine SP.
The SP 125 has been introduced in four colour options and comes with three years standard and three years optional extended warranty. While bookings for the bike have already commenced, deliveries are set to start from next week. In its segment, the SP 125 competes against the Bajaj Discover 125 and Hero Glamour FI. However, both bikes are yet to be introduced as BS-VI models.
