New Honda Unicorn BS6: What’s New?

Honda has added a fifth product to its BS6 line-up, the Unicorn. One of the longest-running model in the bike maker’s portfolio, the Unicorn hasn’t just been updated to comply with the upcoming emission norms. Rather it has been given a few more changes which promise to make it a better commuter than before. In that case, let’s elaborate on what’s new in the BS6 Honda Unicorn.

Bigger Engine

Honda Unicorn Engine

The 149.2cc, carbureted engine of the BS4 Unicorn has been replaced by a larger and more powerful 160cc, fuel-injected motor. Although Honda hasn’t revealed the performance numbers of this new engine yet, expect them to be higher than the previous 12.73bhp and 12.8Nm. It continues to be mated to a five-speed gearbox.

Tweaked dimensions

Honda has increased the ground clearance of the new Unicorn by 24mm which will further help in preventing its underbelly from scraping over tall bumps. The Japanese bike maker has also increased the wheelbase of the motorcycle for lending it more stability now.

Added comfort

Honda Unicorn Seat

The Unicorn was already a comfortable motorcycle owing to its long, single-piece seat. Now, in order to make it more accommodating for the rider and pillion, Honda has elongated the length of the seat by 24mm.

New features

Honda went stingy while adding features in the Unicorn and the only add-on it comes with is an engine start-stop switch. Owing to the easier engine turn off operation, this feature helps in saving fuel during brief halts. The company has also worked on improving the mileage of the bike by incorporating HET tubeless tyres at the rear, which is known to have low rolling resistance.

Price hike

Priced at Rs 93,593 (ex-showroom, Delhi), the new Unicorn is around Rs 13,000 more expensive over its BS4 counterpart. This is a hefty premium considering it doesn’t get many new features while the styling also remains unchanged.
