Husqvarna’s forthcoming Vitpilen 401 and Svartpilen are likely to be made in India, at the Bajaj-KTM plant in Chakan, Pune. The news comes after Amit Nandi, the senior vice-president of Bajaj, hinted that a new range of 'made-in-India' Husqvarnas would be built at some point in 2017.
KTM CEO Stefan Pierer had acquired the Husqvarna brand from the BMW Group back in 2013 and later renamed it from Husqvarna AG to Husqvarna Motorcycle GmbH. Bajaj Auto, that currently holds a large stake in Austrian brand KTM motorcycles is set to manufacture the Vitpilen and the more scrambler-style Svartpilen.
After being shown as concepts in 2014, Husqvarna has already confirmed its return with the 373cc 401 Vitpilen (based on the KTM Duke 390 and RC 390) and its scrambler Svarpilen stablemate, along with a 125cc variant (based on the KTM Duke 125 and RC 125).
Both motorcycles are expected to make their way to the roads by 2017 and will be sold in India through the KTM dealerships. KTM recently inaugurated its ninth brand outlet in Telangana, which is the 262nd showroom across the country. KTM plans to add 88 more dealerships in India by 2017.
