Triumph Motorcycles has revealed its newest product in the middleweight segment, the Trident 660. The motorcycle features a retro design that is complemented by modern features such as full-LED lighting and a Bluetooth-ready instrument cluster. The Bluetooth module, which is available as an accessory, enables turn-by-turn navigation along with controls for phone, music controls, and GoPro.
The new Triumph Trident 660 is built around a tubular steel perimeter frame while the hardware comprises of Showa-sourced 41mm separate function forks at the front and a pre-load adjustable mono-shock at the back to perform the suspension tasks. Braking setup includes 310mm twin discs at the front and a 255mm single rotor at the back – both grabbed by Nissin-sourced callipers. The 17-inch cast-aluminium wheels are wrapped in Michelin Road 5 tyres.
Optional extras include 45 accessories that can be used to further customise the motorcycle. The list of accessories includes My Triumph Connectivity System (Bluetooth module), Triumph Shift Assist (quickshifter), an under-seat USB charger, scrolling indicators, bar-end mirrors, and a tyre pressure monitoring system.
Styling cues on the Trident 660 include a contemporary fuel tank with knee cut-outs, swingarm-mounted rear numberplate, underslung exhaust, five-spoke wheels, flat-style handlebar, adjustable brake lever, and a step-up seat. The motorcycle will be available in four colours – Matt Jet Black & Matt Silver Ice, Silver Ice & Diablo Red, Crystal White, and Sapphire Black.
Mechanical specifications include a 660cc, inline three-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that makes 79.8bhp at 10,250rpm and 64Nm of peak torque at 6,250rpm. Triumph claims that the new motor makes more torque in the mid-range than the Street Triple S 660. The new engine produces 90 per cent of the peak torque between 3,600rpm to 9,750rpm. The company will also offer an A2 variant of the motorcycle in the European market that will make 46.3bhp at 8,750rpm and 59Nm at 5,250rpm. The motorcycle comes with 10,000miles/16,000km service interval and a global two-year unlimited mileage warranty.
The six-speed gearbox benefits from an assist and a slipper clutch while a quickshifter is available as an option. The safety net comprises two ride modes (Road and Rain), switchable traction control, ABS, and an engine immobiliser.
