- Gets the same 294.7cc engine
- Power output stands at 27bhp
Jawa Yezdi Motorcycles has launched the updated Jawa 42 in India at Rs. 1.73 lakh, ex-showroom. The bike has received a lot of mechanical changes and subtle cosmetic tweaks.
The bike is now powered by the same 294.7cc, liquid-cooled engine that has received some internal tweaks. It is called the J-panther and it makes 27bhp. It is paired with a six-speed gearbox that also gets an assist and slip clutch.
The engine has a wider spread of torque with good low-end end performance, says Jawa. They’ve worked on optimizing the engine breathability for better NVH and also better heat management due to more efficient cooling. The company adds that the engine is also much more refined than the unit in the outgoing bike.
The transmission has been refined for smoother shifts while the tuning has been changed to ensure responsiveness in the first to third gears. From the fourth to sixth gears, the tuning is such that there’s a strong mid-range and improved top-end performance.
Visually, not much has changed. The bike has a round headlight, teardrop-shaped fuel tank and a curved rear fender. However, the seat has been tweaked for better comfort than before.
Under the bodywork, there’s a double cradle frame that’s suspended by a telescopic fork and twin shock absorbers. While the suspension hardware is the same, the compression and rebound damping have been revised. The bike rides on alloy wheels while braking duties are taken care of by a disc brake on both ends. Some variants also come equipped with wire-spoke wheels.
The 2024 Jawa 42 will be available at authorised showrooms. Plans are to scale up the network with over 500 showrooms in total to be operational across India by the end of the year.
