A new version of the KTM 690 Enduro R was spotted undergoing trials in Europe, earlier this week. As the current 690 Enduro R is listed on the company’s international website as a 2015 model, this new version might be a 2016 model update, and can be expected to be launched in the second half of next year.
The test mule sported heavy camouflage on the bodywork and seemed to employ a completely new frame. While the current 690 Enduro R is built around a trellis frame, the test mule employed a new tubular steel frame with the engine as a stressed member, quite similar to the one used in the smaller Duke range. The exhaust has also been repositioned, while a closer inspection reveals some adjustments to the rear suspension.
The current 690 Enduro R is powered by a 690cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine, which is also used in the 690 Duke. The engine churns out 67bhp through a six-speed transmission.
KTM CEO, Mr. Stefan Pierer, had recently revealed that they were planning to introduce a new range of middleweight V-twin engines, with capacity ranging from 600cc to 800cc. These engines would replace this single-cylinder 690cc unit. This means that the new 690 Enduro R might be one of the last motorcycles from the Austrian manufacturer’s stables to use the engine.
