KTM is expected to launch the heavily updated RC series in India soon. Along with the RC 125 and RC 390, the RC 200 also gets revisions that set it apart from the current generation. So before the motorcycle makes its official debut, we tell you all there is to know about the upcoming, 2021 KTM RC 200.
RC8-inspired styling
The KTM RC8 was the Austrian manufacturer’s flagship supersport motorcycle until it was taken off the shelves a few years ago. While the current generation of smaller RCs looked completely different, the folks at KISKA Design have gone back to the drawing board and decided to pay tribute to the RC8. So, the new KTM RC 200 looks similar to the latter. The fascia is more curved and the dual-projector headlamps have made way for a single-piece unit. The mirror-mounted LED turn signals are now fitted on the fairing. Even the fairing has received revisions and is sportier.
New frame
All the new bodywork sits on a revised tubular trellis frame that is expected to be lighter than before. Moreover, the bolt-on subframe, which is also new has made for a redesigned tail section that features a seemingly wider and more comfortable pillion seat. KTM has also revised the ergonomics of the RC 200 with a new triple clamp that makes the riding position slightly more upright.
Engine and hardware Now, KTM is unlikely to make heavy revisions to the 199cc, single-cylinder engine. In the current version, it produces 24bhp and 19Nm and is expected to remain the same in the upcoming RC 200. Even the suspension and braking hardware are likely to remain unchanged.
Updated features
The Bluetooth-enabled, TFT screen that will be fitted on the international-spec RC 200 is unlikely to make its way to the Indian model. Instead, it is likely to get the LCD display from the KTM 250 Adventure. And while the international-spec KTM RC 200 is expected to feature a LED headlamp, we are likely to get the motorcycle with a conventionally lit unit.
Price and India launch date
While KTM is yet to announce official details about the unveil, we can expect it to happen sometime soon. The manufacturer is also likely to launch the RC 200 along with the RC 125 and RC 390 in India in the coming months as the festive season draws close. As for pricing, the new RC 200 is likely to demand a premium of at least Rs 15,000 over the current model that retails at Rs 2.08 lakh, ex-showroom.
