New Royal Enfield Classic 350 (2021): What to expect

The 2021 Royal Enfield Classic 350 has been making appearance through spy pictures and videos, and many have been eagerly awaiting the motorcycle. It seems that the wait is almost over as the upcoming Classic 350 was spotted during a commercial shoot in Rajasthan, thus hinting at its imminent launch. The company is yet to make a launch announcement, although we expect to hear official details soon. Here we tell you five things that you can expect to see on the 2021 Royal Enfield Classic 350.

Styling

Several spy images and videos have confirmed that the 2021 Classic 350 will retain the overall silhouette of the outgoing model. The 2021 model will feature a curvy design, a round headlight, round-shaped rear-view mirrors, a rear-fender mounted taillight, and split-style seats. While the design isn’t very different from the outgoing model, the new version will get newer graphics to distinguish it from the old model. Select variants of the 2021 range would be available with wire-spoke wheels while others would get alloy units. The standard variants will use several chrome treated parts while the Signals editions, similar to the outgoing model, will get a black theme.

Buyers can further customise the motorcycle with optional accessories that would be available directly from the showroom. The list should include a windscreen, crash guards, touring seat, lower seat, and panniers.

Features

Similar to the design, the feature list, too, will be similar to the outgoing version. However, the 2021 model will receive tweaks to the instrument cluster that will now use a semi-digital setup. The speedometer will be an analogue unit while information about the fuel level and the trip meters would be available on the LCD screen. The premium variants of the range would also benefit from Royal Enfield’s Tripper Navigation function that would work via Bluetooth and display turn-by-turn navigation. Unlike the Himalayan, the Tripper Navigation system is neatly integrated into the cockpit and it doesn’t look like an afterthought.

Engine

The 2021 Classic 350 will get an updated, BS6-compliant 349cc, air and oil-cooled, single-cylinder engine that is based on the J-Platform. The motor currently powers the Meteor 350, and we expect to see identical power and torque output numbers on the upcoming Classic 350. Linked to a five-speed gearbox, the motor on the Meteor 350 makes 20.2bhp of power at 6,100rpm and 27Nm of peak torque at 4,000rpm. Unlike the outgoing model, the drive chain on the next-generation Classic 350 will sit on the left side of the motorcycle.

Hardware

The hardware will be similar to the outgoing model. Thus, the suspension setup on the 2021 Royal Enfield Classic 350 will use telescopic front forks and twin-sided rear springs. Royal Enfield will offer single-channel and dual-channel variants for the 2021 Classic 350.  The braking setup on the more affordable models will include a disc at the front and a drum at the back while the safety net will comprise a single-channel ABS. The premium versions, on the other hand, would use single discs on both wheels and dual-channel ABS. Do note that the rotor on the front wheel will occupy the space on the right-side of the wheel instead of the left on the old model.

Launch and Expected Price

The official launch details are not available yet, although we expect to see the updated Classic 350 in the Indian market in late-August or early-September 2021. The new model should carry a price premium over its predecessor’s Rs 1.67 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) tag. The motorcycle will rival the Honda HNess CB 350 and the Benelli Imperiale 400 in the Indian market.
