- Royal Enfield Meteor spotted
- Gets Thunderbird X-like styling
- Likely to be launched in India soon
The new Royal Enfield Meteor has been spotted sans camouflage, finally putting rest to all rumour about its identity.
Spied during a TV commercial shoot, the motorcycle is similar to what the spy images revealed. However, the new images unravel a few more details about the Meteor. To start with, it gets an offset single-pod instrument cluster with an LCD as well as tell-tale lights around it. The motorcycle also appears to offer a smaller pod next to the instrument display, however it is unclear as to what this unit could be.
Now, the new motorcycle looks similar to Thunderbird X. It sports a round headlamp (although with LED DRL and conventional lighting), similar split-seat setup, alloy wheels and bright yellow paint on the tank reminiscent of the latter. However, the bold ‘Meteor 350’ badge on the side panels gives it away.
The other important upgrade that the Meteor gets is the engine. While this single-cylinder motor could continue to have a displacement of 346cc, the internals are likely to be revised to make the Meteor more refined. Furthermore, the drivetrain has also been shifted to the left side instead of being positioned on the right.
As we had reported earlier, the Meteor could be one of the three new motorcycles that Royal Enfield is likely to launch in India this year. And while it looks production ready, the launch could be delayed due to to the ongoing coronavirus epidemic. It would replace the Thunderbird 350X, although the fate of the standard Thunderbird is yet unknown. Nevertheless, we can expect it to demand a premium of around Rs 30,000 to Rs 35,000 over the Thunderbird 350X’s price of Rs 1.64 lakh (ex-showroom).
