- Spotted testing in Chennai
- Gets alloy wheels, a few blacked-out components and revised mechanicals
- Expected to be launched soon
The Royal Enfield Thunderbird is set to get a major overhaul soon as the manufacturer has been spotted testing a upgraded version of the motorcycle in Chennai.
To begin with, the new Thunderbird is likely to sport blacked-out alloy wheels in place of the spoke wheels that the current model uses. These wheels are a tad different than the ones found on the Thunderbird X. It also gets blacked-out components like the bar ends and fork bottles. However parts like the tail lamp, headlamp and turn signal cowls along with the mirrors, and exhaust remain chrome finished. The new Thunderbird also sports a redesigned air-filter box, grab rails and exhaust pipe that subtly enhance the look of the motorcycle.
Furthermore, Royal Enfield has reworked the mechanicals of the Thunderbird, shifting the chain, final drive and sprocket to the left whereas the disc brake is now placed on the right. We expect the new Thunderbird to be offered in the same 346cc and 499cc displacement options as the current models although we expect the motors to comply with BSVI norms.
Royal Enfield is likely to launch the updated motorcycle soon to give the Thunderbird brand a fresher appeal. The manufacturer was also recently spotted testing a new Classic motorcycle which is expected to be launched a few weeks apart from each other.
