New Triumph Scrambler 400 X: Details Explained

The India-bound Triumph Speed 400 and the Scrambler 400 X were revealed at an event held in London, UK. As confirmed by the British manufacturer, these products are scheduled to arrive in India on 5 July, 2023. Previously, we brought you all the details about the new Street 400. Here, we explain the top details about the off-road-biased Scrambler 400 X ahead of its imminent India launch.

What are the styling cues of the 2023 Triumph Scrambler 400 X?

The new Triumph Scrambler 400 X, similar to its road-biased sibling, the Speed 400, boasts a neo-retro design. Thus, it gets a round shape for the headlight, a semi-digital instrument cluster, a curvy fuel tank with knee recesses and a tank pad, and a side-slung exhaust. However, unlike the Speed 400, the saddle on the Scrambler 400 X is a split-style unit. Then, this off-road-biased motorcycle rides on 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels. For the UK-spec model, these are shod in Metzeler-sourced, 100/90-section front and 140/80-section rear Karoo Street tubeless tyres. The paint options for the Scrambler 400x comprise three themes – Matte Khaki Green with Fusion White, Carnival Red with Phantom Black, and Phantom Black with Silver Ice. Notably, all paint options get a brown seat cover.

What are the mechanical specifications of the 2023 Triumph Scrambler 400 X?

The mechanical specifications of the new Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X are identical. Thus, both motorcycles use a 398.15cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine with a dual-overhead camshaft and four valves. Linked to a six-speed gearbox, this motor makes 39.5bhp of maximum output at 8,000rpm and 37.5Nm of peak torque at 6,500rpm. The gearbox benefits from a slipper-and-assist clutch mechanism. For the international markets, Triumph Motorcycles has announced a class-leading 16,000km service interval for both, the Speed 400 and the Scrambler 400 X.

What are the features available for the 2023 Triumph Scrambler 400 X?

The feature list, too, is similar for both variants. Thus, the Scrambler 400 X, similar to the Speed 400, packs full-LED lighting, a semi-digital instrument cluster, ride-by-wire throttle, a switchable traction control system, dual-channel ABS, and an anti-theft immobiliser as standard. Notably, the dual-channel ABS on the Scrambler 400 X is a switchable unit. In comparison, the Speed 400 misses out on this feature. Meanwhile, the instrument cluster comprises a large analogue speedometer and an LCD screen that displays a tachometer, a fuel range readout, and a gear indicator. Further, the company will offer 25 optional accessories for this motorcycle. These include crash protectors, a fly screen, luggage options, and more.

What hardware does the 2023 Triumph Scrambler 400 X use?

The new Triumph Scrambler 400 X uses the same hybrid spine/perimeter, tubular steel with a bolted rear sub-frame, and twin-sided cast aluminium swingarm, as the Speed 400. However, this off-road-biased motorcycle benefits from a relatively longer suspension travel than its street-focused sibling. Notably, both motorcycles use 43mm upside-down big piston front forks and a preload-adjustable gas-charger rear mono-shock. The anchoring setup, too, is slightly different, and the Scrambler 400 X benefits from a 320mm front disc brake with a four-piston radial calliper at the front as against the 300mm unit on the Speed 400. Meanwhile, the anchoring tasks at the back are handled by a 230mm single rotor with a two-piston fixed calliper on both products. Other key specifications of the 2023 Triumph Scrambler 400 X include 835mm of seat height, a 13-litre fuel tank, and 179kg of kerb weight.

What are the India launch details and expected prices of the 2023 Triumph Scrambler 400 X?

The new Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X will be launched in India on 5 July, 2023. Meanwhile, it will be on sale in all other markets towards the end of the year. The Scrambler 400 X is likely to carry a marginally higher price tag than the Speed 400, and we expect this motorcycle to arrive in the Rs. 2.80 lakh-Rs. 3.00 lakh (ex-showroom, India) price range. Notably, the company has commenced the pre-bookings for both motorcycles via its website and at dealerships across the country.
