- Triumph unveils the new Speed Triple 1200 RR
- Based on the naked Speed Triple available in India
- Gets a more premium suspension setup
After consistently teasing it on multiple occasions, Triumph Motorcycles has globally unveiled the new Speed Triple 1200 RR quarter-faired motorcycle. It’s essentially the sportier version of the Speed Triple 1200 naked street bike.
The biggest change in the RR over its naked sibling is the front fascia. The new entrant gets a round headlamp with a bubble-style windscreen and a bikini fairing. The naked Speed Triple, meanwhile, gets the bug-eyed front end. For a sportier riding stance, the single-piece handlebar has made way for a clip-on unit. To add to its sporty experience, the footpegs have also been re-positioned on the RR.
Well, the changes over the super naked are not only skin deep. The new Speed Triple 1200 RR comes equipped with Ohlins Smart EC 2.0 front and rear suspension that’s an electronically adjustable semi-active setup. This is the first Triumph naked to get such advanced dampers that are usually seen in more premium sportbikes. Furthermore, the motorcycle rides on Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa V3 tyres while Supercorsa SC2 V3 can be had as an option.
As for the engine, the Speed Triple 1200 RR continues to be powered by the same 1,160cc, triple-cylinder engine that does duty on the naked version. It churns out 177.5bhp of power and 125Nm of peak torque. It is also loaded with electronics to keep the rider safe. There’s cornering ABS, switchable cornering traction control, five riding modes, bi-directional quick shifter, and wheelie control. All this is monitored and tweaked on a five-inch colour TFT instrument cluster.
The new Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RR will start arriving at dealerships by early 2022 in the international markets. The chances of it coming to India look slim. However, what we have here is the naked Speed Triple 1200 RS which isn’t any less bonkers than the RR.
