India Yamaha Motors has introduced the new FZ-X in our market with prices starting from Rs 1,16,800 onwards. The latest offering from the Japanese two-wheeler brand shares its chassis and base components with the FZ FI range, although it gets a completely different styling that is inspired by the XSR series. Here we list the top five highlights of the new Yamaha FZ-X.
Design
The new FZ-X features an XSR range inspired retro styling. The latest addition to India Yamaha Motors’ portfolio comes with a round headlight at the front, tall-set handlebar, an engine cowl, a step up seat with a tuck and roll pattern for the cover, and a basic grab rail at the back. A black plastic panel runs through the centre of the fuel tank which adds a neat contrast to the visuals. The dual-purpose tyres and the fork gaiters add a rugged look to the overall styling. Yamaha will offer accessories such as a seat cover, tank pad, chrome mirrors, and LED blinkers as optional extras. The seat height is 810mm tall while the kerb weight is rated at 139kg.
Features
The feature list on the new FZ-X comprises an LED headlight with LED DRL, an LCD instrument cluster, a USB charger, and a sleek LED taillight at the back. The safety net is at par with most motorcycles in the segment, and the FZ-X packs features such as single-channel ABS and a side-stand engine cut-off function. The Bluetooth-enabled version works with Yamaha Y-Connect smartphone application and the display offers access to functions such as call alert, SMS and email notifications, and phone battery level. The smartphone application records details about the fuel consumption, maintenance recommendation, last parked location, malfunction notification, rev dashboard and ranking (for distance travelled and fuel economy).
Variants and Colours
The new Yamaha FZ-X will be available in two variants – standard and with Y-Connect Bluetooth tech. The standard version is available at Rs 1,16,800 while the Y-Connect variants has been priced at Rs 1,19,800. Both variants are available in three colours – Matte Copper, Matte Black, and Metallic Blue.
Engine
The mechanical specifications are similar to the FZ FI range. The 149cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine on the FZ-X produces 12.2bhp at 7,250rpm and 13.3Nm of peak torque at 5,500rpm. The motor is linked to a five-speed gearbox.
Hardware
The suspension setup on the FZ-X includes 41mm telescopic front forks and a seven-step preload-adjustable rear mono-shock. The braking setup comprises a single 282mm disc at the front and a 220mm rotor at the back. The 17-inch alloy wheels are wrapped in dual-purpose, tubeless tyres.
