- New Yamaha MT 15 to produce slightly lesser power
- Will get new colour schemes
- Likely to be priced around Rs 1.40 lakhs
Yamaha unveiled the new MT-15 in India at the launch of the Fascino 125 in December 2019. However, the manufacturer held back on the pricing as well as the engine details of the streetfighter motorcycle. While pricing is yet to be officially revealed, leaked documents confirm the engine details of the new MT-15.
The 2020 MT-15 comes powered by a BS6-compliant 155cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine which produces 18.2bhp of power at 10,000rpm; 0.2bhp lesser than the 2020 YZF-R15 V3 which also uses the same motor. Nevertheless, torque figures have not yet revealed but we expect it to remain the same at 14.1Nm. The leaked documents also reveal the new MT-15’s dimensions which are unchanged as well.
As part of the 2020 update, Yamaha is offering the MT-15 with a new ‘Ice Fluo Vermillion’ colour which includes a white and neon orange paint scheme. It is also available in the ‘Dark Matt Blue’ colour scheme that was offered in the previous model. Furthermore, the new MT-15 also comes with a side-stand engine cut off switch that prevents the motorcycle from starting if the stand is down. Yamaha has also fitted the MT-15 with a new radial tyre for the rear as standard.
The new MT-15 is expected to cost a premium of Rs 4,000 over the current model which is priced at Rs 1.36 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).
