Yamaha Motors India is working on the next version of its entry-level sports bike – the YZF R15. This development was confirmed by the company’s top honcho.
Yasuo Ishihara, managing director, Yamaha Motor Research & Development India said that the upcoming R15 will be way better than the current generation in terms of performance and safety. This means that the new R15 will be powerful and will also be equipped with ABS, considering the fact that this equipment is mandatory from 2018.
While the company official refused to share more details on this motorcycle, we believe that this upcoming version will also be aesthetically slightly different from the current generation. It’ll be interesting to see if the Japanese manufacturer will get the high split seat for the pillion on the next version. Yamaha launched a single seat version of the R15 V 2.0 after taking customer feedback.
"The R15 will become better in its next iteration, however, no details can be shared as to what would exactly the specifications be like, but we can assure that it will be a step-up from the current generation in all aspects of performance and safety. We also want to extract as much as possible from a motorcycle to give maximum value-for-money for our products" he said.
We think Yamaha will launch the new R15 sometime next year, as the company is currently focusing a lot on increasing its market share in the mass market segment.
