Yamaha has launched the 2020 edition of its sport scooter, the Ray ZR, in India. Interestingly, the scooter has not just been updated to be compliant with the BS6 regulations, but has gone through a comprehensive makeover. While the ‘125’ suffix clearly indicates the engine displacement has gone up, we take a look at all the other updates the Ray ZR 125 comes with, through this image gallery.
The new 125cc iteration has taken the sporty theme of the Ray ZR several notches higher with a profoundly radical styling.
The front apron boasts of a dual tone paint scheme and houses a bold headlamp which is flanked by sportsbike-like faux air intakes on both sides.
The sculpted handlebar cowl features a small windscreen and a unique Y-shaped LED DRL neatly tucked in.
At the rear, the long and high-set tail section integrates a compact LED tail lamp while the sleek grab rail flows well with the overall styling.
Adding to the overall design is the dual-tone seat and underseat panels which feature sporty graphics and large ‘125’ badge.
The instrumentation of the new Ray ZR consists of a rectangular digital display which shows all the basic information, along with tell-tale lights.
Powering the scooter is the new BS6-compliant, 125cc fuel-injected engine which churns out 8bhp and 9.7Nm which is a 30 per cent hike over the 110cc iteration.
It rides on a 12-inch front and 10-inch rear wheels which are suspended by telescopic forks upfront and a monoshock at the rear.
Braking is handled by a disc with Nissin caliper at the front and drum brake at the rear.
The new Yamaha Ray ZR 125 will go on sale in January 2020 and it will compete against the Honda Activa 125 Fi and the Hero Maestro Edge 125 Fi.
