Yamaha Motor India will soon introduce a premium variant of the YZF-R15 in our market. Christened as the YZF-R15 M, this new model will feature several styling upgrades and premium hardware over the standard YZF-R15. Here we tell you everything that we know about the new YZF-R15 M.
Design
The motorcycle was spotted through spy images and leaked photographs. These images revealed the updated styling on the YZF-R15 M that will comprise a single-pod headlight with LED DRLs and fairing-mounted rear-view mirrors at the front. Rest of the styling cues would be similar to the standard YZF-R15 and the M variant will pack a muscular fuel tank, a split-style saddle, a sleek taillight, and a side-slung exhaust.
Features
The feature list on the YZF-R15 M, as seen through the spy images, will include a projector-style headlight, LED DRL, and an LED taillight. The stock motorcycle will come with conventional blinkers while LED units should be available as optional extras. Several Yamaha products have received Bluetooth-connectivity feature, and it would not be a surprise to see the feature on the upcoming YZF-R15 M. The Yamaha Y-Connect App Bluetooth module will bring features such as call alert, SMS/email notification, details about phone battery level, fuel consumption data, maintenance recommendation, and last parked position.
Hardware
The biggest upgrade on the YZF-R15 M over the standard model will be the suspension setup. The upcoming variant of the 155cc motorcycle will feature upside-down front forks instead of conventional units on the standard vehicle. The suspension tasks at the back would be handled by a mono-shock. The braking setup will include single discs on both wheels. The safety net, similar to the standard YZF-R15, should include dual-channel ABS and side-stand engine cut-off function.
Colours
The details about the colour options are limited, although leaked photographs have confirmed the MotoGP paint theme for the YZF-R15 M. The standard model, for reference, is available in Metallic Red, Racing Blue, Thunder Grey, and Dark Knight.
Engine
The leaked engine specifications have revealed that the new YZF-R15 M will make a marginally lower power output than the standard motorcycle that is currently available for sale. As seen in the leaked documents, the upcoming YZF-R15 M will draw 18.1bhp (13.5kW) of power from the 155cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine as opposed to the standard model’s 18.3bhp (13.7kW) output.
