Yamaha Motor India has updated its portfolio with the launch of the new YZF-R15 V4.0 in our market. The motorcycle is available in two variants – Standard and M – with prices range between Rs 1,67,800 and Rs 1,79,800. Here we list the alternatives that potential buyers can consider in the similar price range. Do note that the KTM RC 125 is scheduled to get an upgrade soon and the prices for the new model are not available yet. Thus, we have not included that motorcycle in this list.
Suzuki Gixxer SF 250 (Rs 1,83,300)
Suzuki Motorcycle India’s fully-faired quarter-litre Gixxer SF 250 retails at a marginal premium over the Yamaha YZF-R15 V4.0. For that premium price tag, the Gixxer SF 250 gets a higher displacement engine that brings more power and torque than the YZF-R15 V4.0. Linked to a six-speed gearbox, the 249cc, single-cylinder, oil-cooled engine on the Gixxer SF 250 makes 26.13bhp at 9,300rpm and 22.2Nm of peak torque at 7,300rpm. The feature list on the motorcycle comprises an LED headlight, an LED taillight, digital instrument cluster, and a dual-channel ABS.
Suzuki Gixxer 250 (Rs 1,72,600)
The Gixxer 250 roadster is nearly Rs 10,000 cheaper than its fully-faired sibling. Despite the lower price tag, the Gixxer 250 carries similar features as the Gixxer SF 250, and the naked roadster uses an LED headlight, LED taillight, fully-digital instrument cluster, and a dual-channel ABS. The motorcycle also shares its engine with the Gixxer 250 and the 249cc, single-cylinder, oil-cooled engine on the roadster makes the same 26.13bhp at 9,300rpm and 22.2Nm of peak torque at 7,300rpm as the fully-faired model.
Buyers looking for a retro-style motorcycle in the similar price range as the Yamaha YZF-R15 V4.0 can consider the Jawa classic. The retro-styling of the Jawa Classic is complemented by a powerful, 293cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled motor that makes 27bhp and 27.05Nm of peak torque. The motorcycle, however, gets fewer features than the YZF-R15 V4.0. The feature list on the Jawa Classic include a halogen headlight and a semi-digital instrument cluster. The lower-spec model uses a drum rear brake and a single-channel ABS.
Bajaj Dominar 250 (Rs 1,54,176)
Bajaj Auto’s quarter-litre roadster, the Dominar 250 is available at a lower price tag than the YZF-R15 V4.0. The Dominar 250 packs features such as full-LED lighting and a digital instrument cluster. Similar to rest of the models in this list, the Dominar 250 misses Bluetooth-connectivity. However, the Dominar 250 has the power and torque output advantage over the YZF-R15 V4.0. Linked to a six-speed gearbox, the 248.8cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled motor produces 26.63bhp of power at 8,500rpm and 23.5Nm of peak torque at 6,500rpm.
Yamaha Motor India’s MT-15 naked roadster is based on the YZF-R15 V3.0 and thus it uses hardware such as telescopic front forks and a non-Bluetooth instrument cluster. However, it uses the much the tried-and-tested Deltabox chassis and the 155cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that makes 18.23bhp at 10,000rpm and 13.9Nm of peak torque at 8,500rpm. Yamaha may introduce an updated MT-15 in the future that could share its hardware with the YZF-R15 V4.0, although the official details are unavailable yet.
