Triumph Motorcycles has completely revised its entry-level range of bikes. The Bonneville range, which hitherto included the Bonneville as the entry-level model followed by the T100 and finally the Thruxton right at the top of the pricing chart, now sees the addition of two more models to the range. The Thruxton R will be the most expensive in the Bonnie range and it has been conceived to make the Thruxton brand a proper and credible café racer of the modern era. The Street Twin, meanwhile, will now be Triumph’s smallest, most affordable motorcycle and it will be entrusted with the task of luring younger riders to the Triumph fold, especially from developing markets like India.
Besides these two models, the new range includes the T120, the T 120 Black and the Thruxton. All these bikes including the former two are completely new from the ground up. The T120s and the Thruxtons now get a larger capacity, more powerful 1200cc inline twin while the Street Twin gets a revised (lighter, more torquey and more efficient) version of the current 900cc parallel twin. Both these engines are now liquid cooled and fuel injected. The 1200cc range additionally gets riding modes as well. Moreover, ABS and traction control is standard on all these new Bonneville range of motorcycles.
There are revisions to the chassis as well. The new chassis which is shared across all five models is lighter, stiffer and sharper than before. Now even though the chassis is shared between all the bikes, the different suspension travel, the different wheel sizes and the different swingarm lengths lend the motorcycles different riding characters. For instance, according to Triumph, the Street Twin with its resulting sharper steering geometry is more flickable than the T120 while the Thruxton with its altered swingarm length makes for the best handling motorcycle in the bunch. It also gets the best set of tyres.
This new Bonneville range of Triumph Motorcycles will come to India next year. The Street Twin will be unveiled at the Auto Expo and will be launched soon after while the others, including the T120 and the Thruxton, will only make it to showrooms by mid-2016.
