- Officially unveiled in October last year
- Gets styling updates with new features and cycle parts
- Expected to arrive in India by the end of this year
Yamaha has showcased the next generation model of its supersport offering, the YZF R3, at the ongoing Bangkok International Motor Show 2019. The motorcycle was officially unveiled in October last year when it received styling updates, new features and revised cycle parts.
The fully-faired motorcycle carries design cues similar to other modern R-series bikes in Yamaha’s portfolio. The front section features a re-designed pair of LED headlamps flanking a centre air-intake while it also gets an updated fairing inspired by the company’s middle-weight supersport, the YZF R6. Meanwhile, the semi-digital instrument cluster has been replaced with a new fully-digital console.
The updated Yamaha R3 also gets gold-finished upside-down units instead of the telescopic front forks up front while the rear continues to feature a monoshock suspension. Braking hardware consists of a 298mm disc at the front and a 220mm disc at the rear assisted by dual-channel ABS. The engine of the new R3 remains unchanged which is a 321cc, parallel-twin motor producing 41.4bhp and 26.9Nm and comes mated to a six-speed gearbox.
The ongoing Yamaha YZF R3 retails at Rs 3.49 lakhs (ex-showroom) in India and the new model will carry a mild premium. The motorcycle competes against the Kawasaki Ninja 300 and the KTM RC390 in India. Already launched in a few Asian markets, the new Yamaha YZF R3 is expected to come to our shores by the end of this year.
