- New YZF-R25, YZF-R3 under development
- Likely to be unveiled next year
- Expect significant hike in price for Indian variant of the R3
Yamaha is reportedly working on the next generation YZF R25 and the YZF-R3 which might debut sometime next year.
This new entry-level parallel twin motorcycle is rumoured to get a new chassis along with other major mechanical upgrades. A report suggest that these bikes will draw styling inspiration from the current YZF-R15 and the YZF-R6. So things like aggressive front, all-LED headlamp unit and sharper tail section could be used on the upcoming bikes. Other hardware bits like upside-down forks will also come in this Yamaha. But learning from the YZF-R15 story, Indian market is likely to get the traditional forks to keep costs in check.
In terms of the engine, the major upgrade will come in the form of variable valve actuation (VVA) which is seen on the current YZF-R15. There’s no other information about the power figures, but the 2019 YZF-R25 and the YZF-R3 are likely to retain the 251cc and 321cc engine capacities respectively.
Yamaha sells the YZF-R3 in India and competes with the Kawasaki Ninja 300 and the Benelli 302R. When the next-generation R3 comes to India, expect it to be launched with a significant hike in price, thanks to the new tech, design and the 321cc engine which is likely to be BS-VI compliant.
