Yamaha has officially denied the launch of the new YZF-R6 in 2016. This news was confirmed to MCN by Yamaha UK spokesman.
Over the last couple of months, there have been rumours of a new R6 making its way from the production line. However, it looks like the Japanese manufacturer isn’t really focusing on this aging middle-weight super sport motorcycle. The R6 which remained unchanged since 2008, have been one of the best performance motorcycles. But with economics changing in the middle-weight category, many motorcycle manufacturers are shying away from bringing any new products.
“The new R6 isn’t happening. There isn’t one and there are no changes for next year," said Jeff Tuner.
One of the reasons why manufacturers are not really enthusiastic about 600cc bikes is because the development costs are almost the same as the litre-class machines. However, it can’t be priced close to the 1000cc motorcycles, if the sales need to be justified.
