BMW Motorrad will officially mark its entry to India by October this year. The BMW motorcycle range is currently available through Deutsche Motoren and Navnit Motors in India. Stefan Schaller, President and CEO of BMW Motorrad revealed that it will start official two-wheeler operations in India by October this year.
BMW Motorrad is expected to soon announce plans of setting up its dealerships and service centres initially in metro cities. The dealership will offer their first Indian-made motorcycle, the G310R and their complete international line up. BMW Motorrad unveiled the G310R just a few days before the EICMA 2015. This is the first motorcycle that has been developed under the BMW-TVS alliance, which was formed two years ago.
The G310R is powered by a 313cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine. This engine churns out 34bhp at 9500rpm and has a peak torque of 28Nm at 7500rpm. It is mated to a six-speed gearbox. The German manufacturer claims a top speed of 145kmph and fuel efficiency of 36.05kmpl. However, the real world figures will be different from the claimed ones.
BMW has loaded the G310R with a 41mm upside-down fork in the front and monoshock with adjustable preload at the rear. Two-channel ABS comes as standard with this bike. The braking power on the bike is taken care of by a 300mm single-disc with a radially bolted four-piston caliper in the front and a 240mm two-piston caliper at the rear.
The international line up will include CBU models like the popular S1000RR and other motorcycles from the tour, adventure, roadster and heritage range.
