- Okinawa to launch its first electric motorcycle Oki100 soon
- Claimed to have a top speed of around 100kmph with 150km of battery range
- To be priced around Rs 1 lakh (on road)
Okinawa has established a strong foothold in the Indian electric two-wheeler market. The Gurugram-based company has seven products in its portfolio and a vast dealership reach across the country. However, the manufacturer only has electric scooters in its line-up, which is set to change soon. As per our conversation with Okinawa MD and founder, Jeetendra Sharma, the company is preparing to launch its first electric motorcycle, the Oki100, in India soon.
The company had unveiled a prototype named the Oki100 (shown in the image above) at the 2018 Auto Expo. However, the top official affirmed that the production model will be very different, especially in terms of styling. While the spokesperson didn’t reveal much about its technical details, he did mention that the motorcycle will be powered by a detachable lithium-ion battery, similar to the brand’s other products such as the i-Praise. It is claimed to deliver a range of around 150km on full charge which will vary depending on the selected power mode. The Oki100 will come with two riding modes for delivering varying performance.
As for the propulsion motor of the bike, there aren’t much details about its power output as of now. However, the top honcho did reveal that the performance will be on par with 125-150cc ICE two-wheelers and it will be capable of attaining a top speed of up to 100kmph.
When asked about the available features on the motorcycle, the company MD stated that it will be profoundly modern in this department. Considering that, we can expect full-LED lighting, Bluetooth-enabled fully-digital instrument cluster, timely OTA (over-the-air) updates, keyless ignition along with safety features such as anti-theft alarm and geo-fencing functionality.
Okinawa has been working on the electric motorcycle for the past two years and production will commence shortly. Coming to its pricing, the Oki100 will be priced around Rs 1 lakh (on road). The company intends to offer a premium product such as the Revolt RV400, however, in an affordable package. The Oki100 will be officially unveiled at the 2020 Auto Expo and will start arriving at the dealerships by the end of this financial year.
