- Ola Electric announces it entry into the global electric two-wheeler space
- Acquires Netherlands-based electric scooter maker, Etergo BV
- To develop electric two-wheeler for Indian and export markets
Ola Electric Mobility has announced its entry into the global electric two-wheeler space and that it plans to launch its first electric two-wheeler in India in 2021. For the design and engineering of its future products, the company has acquired the Netherlands-based electric scooter manufacturer, Etergo BV.
Besides introducing an electric two-wheeler, Ola Electric is also working on setting up battery charging and swapping points in various cities across India. The company’s main focus is on electric two and three wheelers and it is already running pilots to deploy electric vehicles and charging solutions.
While working in association with Etergo, Ola Electric is gearing up to carry out the designing, engineering and manufacturing process of its products in India. Etergo and its team bag a commendable experience of building EVs which is exemplified by its former association with brands like Tesla, General Motors, Ferrari and BMW.
Etergo BV made a mark in the global EV space after its smart e-scooter, AppScooter, won multiple awards at events such as CES 2019 and Automatic Brands Contest for its innovative design and engineering. The AppScooter runs on high energy density batteries with swappable functionality and it is capable of delivering 240km of range. The India-bound e-scooter from Ola will most likley be based on the AppScooter.
Ola Electric suspects a strong demand and scope for electric mobility post the COVID-19 era and foresees electric two-wheelers to be the most preferred means of transport in the coming days. The company intends to fully utilise this opportunity by creating an electric eco-system comprising of two-wheelers and battery charging and swapping stations.
