-New removable battery patented
-Could feature in the upcoming electric scooters or motorcycles.
Ola Electric has filed a patent for its new removable battery. At present, the entire Ola S1 range, be it the S1X, S1 Air or the S1 Pro have fixed batteries. With Ola patenting their removable battery, it opens the possibility of them being featured in upcoming products.
Removable batteries provide a lot of convenience over fixed batteries. In the case of the latter, one needs to find a charging station or a plug point to use a portable charger to top up the battery. This has its own set of challenges as some housing societies do not allow charging points to be installed. Ola’s own Hypercharger network isn’t as dense as customer’s would’ve liked given the sheer number of Ola S1 scooters on the roads. And then there’s the issue with waiting for a charging spot to get free at charging stations.
Swappable or removable batteries take care of these issues by offering the convenience of being taken out of the EV and carried to a plug point inside one’s home or office. Swappable battery charging stations, on the other hand, saves time as people can swap their depleted battery for a fully charged one in a matter of minutes.
If these batteries go into production, expect them to feature in Ola’s upcoming electric scooters or motorcycles, some of which were recently patented.
At present Ola’s primary competition, the Vida V1 is the only scooter in the segment to feature removable batteries. With the introduction of removable batteries, Ola could be looking to offer more convenience to its expanding customer base.
