Ola launched the S1 Air, its most affordable electric scooter model in India a couple of days ago. So, before you make a buying decision, we tell you everything that you need to know about the Ola S1 Air.
Tweaked styling
The Ola S1 Air is the brand’s entry-level model and to set it apart from the rest of the range, it gets a few styling changes. While the electric scooter can be easily mistaken for the S1 and S1 Pro, it comes with black lower body panels instead of the body-coloured ones. In addition to that, it also sports a conventional, steel wheel design and a plain jane grab rail to cut costs. However, Ola is continuing to offer an array of colours, including grey, black, white, red and blue.
New battery and motor
Unlike its premium siblings, the Ola S1 Air electric scooter uses a smaller 2.5kW motor with a 4.5kWh battery pack that is claimed to offer 101kms of range and a top speed of a good 90kmph.
Revised hardware
Apart from the change in its battery and motor, Ola has also changed the braking hardware on the new S1 Air to keep costs in check. So, the scooter uses drum brakes at both ends unlike the disc braking system on the S1 and S1 Pro electric scooters. That said, the disc brakes are not available as an option on the Air.
Features
In terms of features, the S1 Air electric scooter is not slacking and gets all the bells and whistles and the other models. So there is full-LED lighting, speakers, and a large seven-inch colour TFT display that is touch sensitive and can connect to your smartphone to offer a host of additional features and information.
Pricing
Now, Ola has priced the S1 Air electric scooter at Rs 79,999, ex-showroom including FAME II subsidy. This makes it significantly cheaper than the S1 which is priced at around a lakh. What is interesting though is that this pricing puts it in close contention with petrol powered scooters like the Honda Activa 6G and TVS Jupiter. Has Ola finally cracked the code with the S1 Air? We’ll find out with the brand’s sales numbers in the next few months.
