Ola Electric recently made its portfolio more accessible by launching the S1 Air in India. This lower-spec version of the S1 Pro costs Rs. 1.20 lakh (ex-showroom). Although it’s an attractive package considering the number of features, top speed, and battery range on offer, there are four other scooters (electric and ICE) that are almost equally good and carry a similar price tag. Let’s look at these alternatives of the S1 Air.
TVS iQube: Rs. 1.17 lakh
The standard variant of the TVS iQube e-scooter costs almost the same as the Ola S1 Air. It delivers a riding experience that is extremely pleasant and very close to ICE scooters. The throttle and brake calibration are seamless, ride quality is comfortable, ergonomics are welcoming, and the top speed and battery range are decent. However, it doesn’t offer as many fancy features as Ola.
Bajaj Chetak: Rs. 1.30 lakh
The Bajaj Chetak is nearly Rs 10,000 more expensive than the Ola S1 Air. One of the main highlights of this electric scooter is its brand recall and the strong legacy it carries from the original Chetak of the yesteryears. Moreover, a majority of its bodywork is made up of steel which gives it a robust appeal. While the 90km+ battery range is acceptable, the top speed of 63kmph might not be to everyone’s liking.
Vespa ZX 125: Rs. 1.17 lakh
If you’re not ready to shift to EVs yet and want a petrol-powered scooter, the Vespa ZX 125 is slightly more affordable option than the Ola. It’s known for its charming, retro-inspired Italian design adorned with funky colour options. Powering the scooter is a 124.45cc engine that produces 9.65bhp and 10.11Nm. It is based on a monocoque full-steel body construction that rides on 10-inch wheels along with old-school link-type suspension and a monoshock.
Aprilia SR 125: Rs. 1.23 lakh
The Aprilia SR 125 is mainly suitable for those who want a sporty and stylish daily driver. It boasts a sharp and aggressive design which is dated now but looks attractive and youthful nonetheless. Moreover, the 124.45cc motor of the SR packs in great punch while its large 14-inch wheels and stiffly-tuned suspension facilitate it with impressive handling dynamics.
