Ola Electric recently entered the Indian EV space with the launch of its first electric scooter, the S1. Although we are yet to ride it, the specifications and features look pretty promising, especially its battery range of 121km and a top speed of 90kmph. What’s even more enticing is its price tag of Rs 99,999 (excluding state-level subsidy).
Now, the price segment the Ola S1 sits in has a host of other options, electric as well as conventional ones. In case you’re curious to know, here are our top five picks.
To start with electric vehicles, the Revolt RV 400 is one of the few electric motorcycles on sale in India. It gets a styling similar to a sporty ICE motorcycle with a low-slung headlamp, fuel tank-like mid-section, and an upswept tail. It’s also capable of achieving a top speed of 85kmph while its 3.4kWh battery pack delivers a maximum range of 150kms. Prices of the RV 400 start at Rs 90,000 (including FAME II and state subsidy).
The Simple One electric scooter is one of the closest rivals of the Ola S1 and both were launched recently on the same day. It’s a creation of the Bangalore-based brand, Simple Energy, and is claimed to return an insane battery range of up to 236kms. Even the top speed is rated at as much as 105kmph. And just like most other premium e-scooters, the One is also loaded with advanced electronic wizardry. It is priced at Rs 1,09,999.
Okinawa is an electric two-wheeler brand that has one of the widest dealership reaches across India amongst all EV makers. The i-Praise Plus is Okinawa’s flagship product with a range of about 180km and a top speed of 58kmph. It’s decently equipped with modern and practical features but not as much as the Ola S1 and the Simple One. Okinawa has priced the electric scooter at Rs 99,708.
Coming to the petrol-powered two-wheelers, for nearly the same price as the Ola S1, you can get the stylish and butch Bajaj Pulsar 150. Although it won’t greet you with modern features, it will surely deliver more ruggedness, better engine performance, longer range and better highway cruising abilities. You can also avail of Bajaj’s robust dealership and service network in India. The cheapest Neon trim of the Pulsar 150 costs Rs 98,291.
For those who want the convenience of a scooter but in an exciting package, Aprilia has the SR 160 that is currently the most powerful scooter available in India. Its 160.03cc, air-cooled, three-valve engine churns out 10.84bhp and 11.6Nm. Moreover, with 14-inch alloy wheels, it handles as good as a sporty motorcycle. Prices of the Aprilia SR 160 start at Rs 1,08,331.
