Honda rules the scooter industry in India and has been doing that for ages now. But how come the company hasn’t made its presence felt in the hot and buzzing e-scooter segment yet? Well, it will happen in and that too in the next three to four months probably.
For years, Honda has been saying that it is developing a range of electric two-wheelers for the Indian as well as global markets. But as of now, not a single such product has been launched for the Indian market. But when you look at its rivals like Bajaj and TVS, both have already launched multiple variants of the Chetak and the iQube respectively. In fact, both brands command a large chunk of the segment, and this is likely to go up in the next few quarters as they launch more affordable variants.
The rumoured electric Activa has been under development for years now, but the problem is that Japanese makers like Honda believe in the process rather than being agile. While the EV industry saw some drastic sales increase in the last two years, instead of quickly launching the Activa electric, Honda decided to follow its process and plan. It avoided the FOMO and continued to work on the Activa electric.
Now according to our sources, Activa Electric is in the final stages of validation and a production line has been readied for it. In a few weeks, the test production of this e-scooter will commence, followed by a global unveil around December. The bookings and deliveries are likely to commence from February 2025, and we believe Honda has developed a no non-sense electric scooter without all the bells and whistles. It is likely to focus on overall riding experience and good riding range. However, it will be interesting to see the price point of this upcoming Activa Electric.
