- Cess increased by Rs 2
- Lockdowns have affected state’s revenue
The Government of Maharashtra has hiked the price of the petrol in the state. The fuel is now costlier by Rs 2 from today.
The Government through a notification decided to increase the cess on petrol as well as on diesel. As a result, the cess on petrol will increase from Rs 8.12 to Rs 10.12 per litre. Cess is charged over and above the Value Added Tax (VAT) of 26 per cent.
The COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns have put a big stress on the state’s revenue. With this fuel increase, the government is trying to bring in revenue that will also help it fight the COVID-19 battle in the country. With lockdown being eased up in the state in various forms, the state is likely to start earning good revenue.
