- Piaggio considering launching e-scooters in India
- Waiting for government policy
- Had showcased Vespa Elettrica e-scooter at 2018 Auto Expo
Piaggio is planning to introduce e-scooters in India. The company is ready with the EV technology and is waiting for government to come out with the respective regulation.
This development was confirmed by Ashish Yakhmi, business head, Piaggio India. The company had shown the Vespa Elettrica e-scooter at the 2018 Auto Expo. This scooter is powered by an electric motor that can do 100kms in a single charge. There’s an X variant as well, that can do 200kms in a single charge. But the latter uses a petrol-engine whose job is to just charge the battery. The Italian maker claims four hours charging time for this EV.
"We're ready with the technology for two-wheelers and four-wheelers as well, but we're waiting for regulations to introduce the vehicles in the country," said the top honcho.
The world including India is slowly but steadily moving towards greener transportation. There are a few other two-wheeler manufacturers that will launch e-scooter in the next year or two, thus helping in reducing carbon emission.
