- Will use single-channel ABS system for Aprilia 150, Vespa 150 range
- Dual-channel ABS system wasn’t feasible due to the cost involved
Piaggio India will equip the Vespa 150cc and the Aprilia 150cc scooters with single-channel ABS system early next year.
The company did consider dual-channel ABS system for its premium scooters, but it eventually decided against it as the pricing won’t be feasible. Plus, company found it really difficult to find the right product positioning strategy, considering the fact that these scooters are already priced high. The company officially didn’t comment on the name of the ABS supplier but did mention that this ABS system has been specifically developed for the Indian market.
From 1st April 2019, all two-wheelers above 125cc needs to be equipped with an ABS system. This rule applies for both, motorcycles and scooters. Two-wheelers below 125cc category need to be equipped with CBS (combi-braking system). So the Aprilia SR 125 and the upcoming Storm 125 will get CBS beginning from February 2018.
