- Aprilia scooter range starts from Rs 85,431 and Vespa from Rs 91,492
- Gets fuel-injected motor
- SR 150 to be replaced by the SR 160
Piaggio Group has rolled out the BS6 range of Aprilia and Vespa scooter in India. Interestingly, the company has only announced the starting price of the range which now starts from Rs 85,431 for Aprilia and Rs 91,492 for Vespa. In comparison to the previous pricing, it is a substantial hike ranging from Rs 17,000 to 21,000 depending on the model. Besides the launch, the company has also introduced a launch offer, wherein customers will receive free accessories like a visor and perimeter kit worth Rs 4,200 for Vespa 150 and Aprilia SR 160 scooters.
Apart from the launch of the BS6 compliant scooters, Aprilia has also introduced the SR 160, the successor to the SR 150 which is currently on sale in the market. The engine displacement has been increased from 154.8cc to 160cc which has resulted in a max power output of 10.8bhp which is a hike of 0.6bhp over the predecessor. Besides this, the manufacturer hasn’t disclosed the specs for any of the scooters.
According to the release, apart from the inclusion of fuel injection, the scooters remain the same cosmetically and mechanically. There are no new graphics, paint schemes or features that have been introduced. For just the BS6 update, which chiefly involves fuel-injection and a larger catalytic converter, the hefty price hike is difficult to justify.
How Piaggio will manage to sustain in the scooter market despite the massive premium over its rivals, is something that one will have to wait and watch. Keep a tab on this space for more information on the prices and specifications.
