Piaggio has recorded its highest ever monthly scooter sales in September 2017. The company sold 9,100 Vespa and Aprilia scooters in the last month, driven by the jump in demand during the festive season.
In the first nine months of 2017, Piaggio sold over 50,400 two-wheelers as compared to 24,600 units in the corresponding period in 2016. With a growth of 105 per cent, the Indian market contributed to 16.8 per cent to Piaggio’s global two-wheeler sales. While the Aprilia SR 150 is the biggest contributor of this growth, sales of Vespa scooters also grew by 16.5 per cent.
While the Aprilia SR range is available with a host of engine options globally, it was launched in India with a 150cc version, considering the scope and demand for this market space. Besides, using a powertrain that is already being used in the Vespa range helped Piaggio in competitively pricing the SR 150. And this competitive price tag has been the biggest talking point about this scooter.
