Piaggio group has unveiled two new premium scooters at the 2018 Auto Expo. Both of these are based on the brand's hot-selling Aprilia SR150.
The Aprilia SR 125 is a new addition to the line-up featuring styling and underpinnings similar to the SR150. Powering it is a 125cc single-cylinder engine, delivering 9.5bhp and 9.9Nm of torque. It rides on 12-inch alloy wheels with 30mm front forks and a rear monoshock. The front wheel gets a disc brake. The Aprilia Storm 125 is a variant of the SR 125. However, it gets even more aggressive decals and matte paint schemes to set it apart. It can also be specified with accessories like a tall windscreen.
The company also showcased the Aprilia SR 150 Carbon. It is a special edition scooter featuring faux carbon fibre stick-ons on the side panels and the front apron. At its heart is the same 150cc single-cylinder engine delivering 9.9bhp and 10.9Nm of torque. It rides on 14-inch wheels. The company has also updated the SR 150 Race, giving it an even more exciting livery.
Piaggio has also launched a new app for Aprilia and Vespa scooters. This app allows owners to track their scooters and beep it remotely to help them spot it in a parking lot.
The Aprilia SR150 has set Piaggio's cash registers ringing ever since it was launched back in 2016 and the special edition should further boost the demand. Simultaneously, the company will now aim to build upon this brand with this new 125cc offering. This market space has been seeing a lot of activity of late, with the Honda Grazia and TVS Ntorq 125 entering the fray. In such a scenario, the brand's heritage and the attractive price tag and have to be the biggest draw for the SR125.
