- Piaggio working on new product
- Reverse tilting three-wheeler
Piaggio is working on a new tilting three-wheeler that’s quite different from what we have seen so far from the company. The brand is working on a new type of reverse three-wheeler.
Currently, the Italian brand has the famous MP3 tilting scooter that has two wheels at the front and one at the rear. According to the leaked patent images, the company has now reverse that idea by having two wheels at the back and one large wheel at the front.
From the pictures, it looks like Piaggio has used an engine which has been taken from a scooter, but is equipped with a short shaft drive. The same shaft goes into the center differential on the rear axle. This helps in creating a pivot that allows the axle to remain parallel with the ground while the rest of the vehicle leans. The brand has used an additional suspension members that run parallel with the axle and connect to the rear wheel. This allows the vehicle to have the same lean angle as the main section of the bike.
We believe Piaggi has already readied some prototypes of this technology, and can expect it to see on the road in the next few months. It will be interesting to see the final ready product because if this creates a new segment, expect more brands to jump into the same bandwagon.
