Polaris, the parent company of Indian Motorcycles has confirmed that it will launch its Chief range in India by early 2014. Now a tweet by Shubhabrata Marmar says that the bikes will be launched in India on January 22, 2014. This brings in the good news for all the enthusiasts who have been waiting for this iconic brand to come to India.
The Chief range is powered by 1.8-litre Thunder Stroke 111 engine that churns out 161Nm of torque at 3000rpm. The engine has been mated to six-speed sequential gearbox. Polaris will bring the entire Chief range – Classic, Vintage and Chieftain to India and will be sold through completely-built-up (CBU) route. The company might setup exclusive Indian Motorcycles showrooms in selected metro cities rather than selling it through their current Polaris outlets.
The Harley Davidson competitor has been aggressively marketing its products in its home country but it won’t do the same in India. One main reason is because its entire Chief range will compete with the Harley Davidson Road King when it comes to price. The entry level Chief is priced at $18,999 (Rs 11.72 lakh) which makes the legendary motorcycle accessible to many buyers. The Chief Vintage and the Chieftain have been priced at $ 20,999 (Rs 12.96 lakh) and $ 22,999 (Rs 14.20 lakh) respectively.
