The holy men have been donating in kind and cash for a long time. The newly appointed Pope has been a great example in this order. Pope Francis was gifted a Harley-Davidson Dyna Super Glide motorcycle last year which apparently ended up in auction to raise money for a noble cause. The motorcycle was taken for more than 11 times the predicted amount.
Tha auction took place at Bonhams Paris auction and it was taken for USD 3,29,000 (Rs 2.23 crore). The speculated amount was a lowly USD 16,000 to 20,000 (Rs 10 to 12 lakh). The bidding started at USD 27,280 (Rs 16.9 lakh) and within moments a bidder’s voice hustled USD 286335 (Rs 1.78 crore). A Harley- Davidson jacket, also presented to Pope, was taken for USD 68,175 (Rs 42.3 lakh).
The proceedings from this auction will go to towards restoring a homeless hostel and soup kitchen in Rome. The highest bidder surely can boast of the world’s only Harley blessed by Pope himself and who knows the motorcycle might fetch a million in the future.
