This is the biggest spied picture story of the year, at least on BikeWale. The bikes in question are the upcoming G310GS adventure bike from BMW.
We’ve always known that BMW will maximise its new 310cc platform by creating a range of bikes. The G310R street bike was the first and now we’ve the adventure version – something the Indian market always wanted. An affordable small displacement adventure bike that’ll be easy and practical to live with in India. There’s a super sport version too in the TVS Akula avatar.
The most interesting aspect of the G310GS is that the design and the paint scheme are very similar to the bigger R1200GS. The protruding front beak, the visor, radiator shrouds – all these have been added so that this small adventure will look part of the famous GS family. There are a couple of things that makes the G310GS different from its naked sibling. Things like the presence of a 19-inch front wheel and bash plate, more suspension travel and a big luggage rack at the rear make this bike a proper adventure. The tank design is also very similar to the R1200GS and we quite like that. The tyres on the spied bike are the typical on-off road ones, but we’re sure that the German manufacturer will offer knobby tyres for it.
In terms of performance, the G310GS will be powered by the same the 313cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine. However, we’re expecting the Germans might have re-tuned this engine to develop more torque at the low-end to fit the adventure nature. So expecting this bike to generate 2Nm-3Nm more torque. Gearbox will be the same six-speed one, however, the gear ratios will vary.
We’re expecting BMW will officially unveil the new G310GS at the upcoming EICMA 2016 show. But with these pictures surfacing on the internet, it has surely spoilt BMW’s party.
Stay tuned!
