Rajini Krishnan has registered his first podium in the 2017 Malaysian Superbike Championship. The 35-year-old racer from Chennai finished third in Race 2 of the first round at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC), Kuala Lumpur.
Having qualified third for the second race, Rajini led the race for 16 laps although a malfunctioning quick shifter saw him drop back to the third position. Rajini is competing on a 2014 Kawasaki ZX-10R as opposed to the 2016 model he was using in the previous season, which can be attributed to lack of funding. Rajini had won the inaugural season of the Malaysia Superbike Championship back in 2015 and finished fifth in the last season.
The other two Indians at the Malaysian Superbike Championship also had a good weekend. Dinesh Kumar scored his first podium in the series, finishing second in race 2 of the 250cc category. Vishwadev Muraleedharan on the other hand finished fourth in race 1 under the same category. Round 2 of the Malaysian Superbike Championship will be conducted between April 28 and April 30 at the SIC.
