While the Indian two-wheeler market has several examples of electrically powered scooters, Revolt Motors, a Gurugram-based company has launched the RV400 electric bike and first of its type in India. The motorcycle comes with several unique features and smart connectivity and is claimed by the manufacturer to be India’s first AI-enabled motorcycle. Read the first ride review here. Available in two variants- Base and Premium, here’s a detailed review photo gallery of the new electric motorcycle.
The RV400 is designed keeping conventional motorcycles in mind. The motorcycle has large side panels covering the battery pack and other components. The fitment of body panels on the RV400 is decent with hardly any noticeable panel gaps. However, the quality of plastics and components could have been better.
The motorcycle features all-LED headlamp flanked by LED turn indicators. The headlamp unit is surrounded by a petite bikini fairing while the tank extensions give it an aggressive appeal.
The RV400 draws its power from swappable lithium-ion battery what weighs 20kgs. The battery can be charged by plugging it to a regular socket or by a portable charger or by taking it off the motorcycle and charging it at home or office. Revolt is also setting up a swappable battery structure wherein one can replace the depleted battery with a fully charged one.
The instrument console on the RV400 is a fully digital LCD unit that shows the selected mode, battery percentage, battery temperature, and ambient temperature along with speed, ampere meter, and trip meter.
Up front, the motorcycle is suspended by inverted forks, while braking is done by a 240mm disc brake. The bike rides on 17-inch alloy wheels shod with 90/80-R17 (front) and 120/80-R17 (rear) section tyres.
For the rear, the RV400 features an adjustable monoshock mounted onto an aluminium swingarm to take care of damping duties. Braking is done by a 240mm disc at the rear. The setup consists of CBS and RBS (Regenerative Braking System) which essentially recharges 2-3 per cent of battery while braking.
Revolt offers the RV400 with three riding modes- Eco, Normal and Sport which can be switched on-the-fly. In Eco mode, the top speed is limited to 45kmph and is capable of returning a range of 156kms. Normal mode increases the top speed to 65kmph while offering a range of 100kms. Lastly, in Sports mode, the top speed is rated at 80kmph with a range of 80kms.
The RV400’s 3kW motor is capable of producing a peak torque of 50Nm right from zero rpm. Since it’s an electric motorcycle, it doesn’t produce an exhaust note like conventional motorcycles. To alert other road users on its presence, the RV400 features a speaker fitted into the fairing to produce an artificial exhaust note. These sounds can only be changed via the Revolt app although it can also be turned on/off via a button on the switchgear.
Revolt is selling the RV400 with a unique pricing structure. The Base variant can be purchased by paying an EMI of Rs 3499 while the more feature-loaded Premium can be bought at a monthly instalment of Rs 3999. The instalment period of both variants is fixed to 37 months.
